Here is a quick and simple idea to make some reindeer candy cane holders and use them as gift tags, an addition to a gift or to tuck inside a stocking.
This is my own version of the holders. I had looked online but didn’t find any that really appealed to me.
Materials:
- brown yarn
- 5 mm crochet hook
- needle with a big enough eye to take the yarn, I used a needle that I use for plastic canvas
- scissors
- red pom pom
- googly eyes
- glue
Pattern:
- chain 9, turn
- Row 1 – hdc in first stitch from hook (stitch #9 makes the first dc)
- Repeat Row 1 8 or 9 times
- Leave a long tail for joining
This makes a rectangular brown piece which is the body of the reindeer.
Wrap piece around two candy canes and overcast stitch to join together. The hooks of the candy cane represent the ears of the reindeer.
Glue on the pom poms and googly eyes and let dry. These would also make cute ornaments for the tree. If you have the smaller candy canes you can stitch the bottom closed and perhaps make the pattern 1 or 2 rows less.
Here are some other reindeer crafts I’ve made in the past. Clicking the links will give you instructions/patterns/printable tags in case you want to make some yourself.
I used to wear my Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer pin when I worked with kids. It’s made out of a wooden bead about 3.5 cm in length, half a brown pipe cleaner, 2 google eyes, a red pom pom and a brooch pin or a loop of yarn. It’s the kind of craft you can figure out how to make just by looking at the photos.
A tuckered out reindeer makes a cute gift for a someone. It’s made of various size pom poms and felt.
Everyone needs some magic reindeer food to sprinkle on the ground to guide Santa and his magic reindeer to their house. Be sure to make environmental friendly food using sparkling coloured sugar instead of glitter.

The reindeer candy canes are so cute and clever. I won’t be able to make any for this year but will make a good winter project to do to send for next year. The Christmas tree skirt reminds me of one my mother crocheted many years ago. I use it every year.
I enjoy your craft projects so much
Have a Joyous and Happy Holidays.
