I came across a cute little pattern at Bugs & Fishes for a cross stitch brooch and decided right away it was something I was going to make for my friend for her birthday. I had already got her a selection of tea items so this was the perfect little project to make.
The first thing I did was draw out the pattern on some graph paper. Laura has the pattern for this one and others are her blog.
It was time to get out the needlework basket and the felt needle case to find just the right size needle. You can easily make this needle case out of felt, buttons, pins and a bit of yarn.
My friend loves red so I chose red embroidery floss and red felt for the backing.
I did some simple stitches to fasten the cross stitch to the felt. Once it was all fastened on I used the pinking shears to trim around the red felt.
The original pattern called for a brooch pin to be stitched onto the back. I actually did this at the beginning but then decided to make it into a magnet instead. The magnet covers all the stitching as well, which makes it look neater.
This is one of my favourite teapots so what better place to stand the new magnet before it went to its new home on my friend’s fridge. This was a quick and easy craft project and I can see all sorts of possibilities. This is the same photo that I shared on my Instagram account. If you are on Instagram perhaps you will follow along.
